Emmanuel Rodriguez secures a unanimous decision victory over Fernando Diaz, setting his sights on reclaiming a championship title.
On Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, Emmanuel Rodriguez kicked off his quest to regain a titleholder position. The boxer from Vega Baja, Puerto Rico, emerged victorious through a 10-round unanimous decision against Fernando Diaz from Riverside, California, with the judges scoring the match 97-92, 99-90, and 99-90. This bout took place on the undercard of the Subriel Matias-Dalton Smith junior welterweight title fight.
Rodriguez, a former two-time IBF bantamweight champion, previously saw his reigns come to an end at the hands of Naoya Inoue in 2019 and Ryosuke Nishida in 2024. Now training under the guidance of ex-champion Roman “Rocky” Martinez, the 33-year-old Rodriguez made an impactful entry into the ring by delivering a powerful left hook that knocked Diaz down in the very first round. Following a 19-month break from boxing, Rodriguez displayed a calculated strategy to dismantle Diaz.
In the fifth round, Rodriguez intensified his assault on the 25-year-old Diaz, who demonstrated remarkable resilience. However, Diaz adapted his approach in Round 7, opting for a more aggressive, physical style that allowed him to clearly win that round. In the subsequent round, Rodriguez showcased his precision, landing several clean shots as Diaz continued to engage him in close quarters. Although Rodriguez fell short of achieving his pre-fight desire to stop Diaz, he ultimately secured the win.
With this victory, Rodriguez improved his record to 23 wins, 3 losses (13 KOs) and is now looking forward to competing for a world title soon. On the other hand, Diaz's loss marks his second consecutive defeat at the Barclays Center, bringing his record to 16 wins, 7 losses, and 1 draw (6 KOs).
In another exciting matchup, bantamweight Jeyvier Cintron from Bayamon, Puerto Rico, faced a moment of danger before managing to knock out last-minute opponent Victor Sandoval from Tijuana, Mexico, in the first round. The knockout occurred at 2 minutes and 40 seconds of the round.
Cintron, age 30, found himself on the canvas after being caught by Sandoval with a quick right-hand and left-hook combination. After rising to his feet, albeit unsteadily, Cintron engaged in a thrilling exchange that saw Sandoval hit the mat. Cintron followed up with two additional knockdowns, ultimately finishing the fight with Sandoval trapped in the corner, overwhelmed by a barrage of punches. The referee intervened to stop the bout, which will certainly be remembered as one of the most exhilarating rounds of the year, even if it happened just ten days into 2026.
With this win, Cintron's record improved to 14 wins, 1 loss (7 KOs), while Sandoval, who usually fights at junior bantamweight and took the match on short notice, fell to 38 wins, 6 losses (24 KOs), though his performance may have earned him some new supporters.
Meanwhile, junior welterweight Nestor Bravo from Arecibo, Puerto Rico, delivered a spectacular second-round knockout against Pedro Campa from Hermosillo, Mexico, stopping the fight at 1 minute and 23 seconds into the round.
Bravo landed a crushing left hook that Campa walked directly into, rendering him unconscious the instant he hit the floor. Bravo, age 32, now boasts a record of 24 wins, 1 loss (17 KOs), bouncing back strongly following his first career defeat to Xolisani Ndongeni in March. Campa, now 33 years old, sees his record drop to 37 wins, 5 losses, and 1 draw (25 KOs), suffering the fourth knockout of his career, one of which occurred at the hands of Teofimo Lopez Jr. in 2022.
In the featherweight division, Keith Colon from Newark, New Jersey, achieved a seventh-round technical knockout victory over Alberto Guevara of Tijuana, with the stoppage occurring at 1 minute and 9 seconds.
At just 23 years old, Colon dropped Guevara twice in the fifth round, both times due to body shots. He then sent Guevara down again in the sixth round. The final knockdown came in Round 7 when a decisive chopping right hand sent Guevara crashing to the canvas, prompting the referee to halt the contest.
Colon's record now stands at a perfect 9-0 (9 KOs), while the 35-year-old Guevara falls to 28 wins, 9 losses (13 KOs). This victory is particularly significant for Colon as Guevara has faced notable titleholders like Shakur Stevenson and Emmanuel Rodriguez earlier in his career.
Lastly, light heavyweight Arjan Iseni from Staten Island, New York, scored a third-round technical knockout over Mario Bedolla from Zamora, Mexico, when Bedolla’s corner decided to stop the fight between rounds. The official time of stoppage was three minutes.
Iseni, 23 years old, is now undefeated at 5-0 (5 KOs), while the 26-year-old Bedolla's record stands at 4 wins, 5 losses (3 KOs).
