No Limit CEO George Rose shared the thrilling story of a 4am zoom call that sealed the deal for Liam Paro's world title shot. In a bold move, No Limit is aiming to dethrone two of Eddie Hearn's UK world champions, and they're bringing the Tszyu brothers along for the ride.
But here's where it gets controversial...
No Limit's successful bid, which Rose proudly claims as "the biggest purse win by any Australian promoter ever", pipped Hearn's Matchroom by a mere $27,000. Imagine the tension during that early morning zoom call as the bids were unveiled!
"We didn't need to wait and hear ours," Rose grins, "but it was hard to control our excitement."
Now, No Limit is finalizing the date and venue for the bout, with late March or early April looking like the sweet spot.
The Tszyu Factor
And this is the part most people miss...
No Limit isn't stopping at Paro's world title shot. They're eyeing a potential showdown between one of the Tszyu brothers and another Matchroom star, IBF super welterweight champion Josh Kelly.
The Tszyu brothers, Nikita and Tim, are ranked highly in the IBF super welterweight rankings, with Nikita at No. 6 and Tim close behind at No. 9. While Nikita is coming off a controversial No Contest, Tim is back in the winner's circle after a strong decision win over Anthony Velazquez.
"Both Tszyu boys are close to fighting again," Rose said. "We'd love to have one of them join Liam's world title card."
The Matchroom Challenge
No Limit is taking on Matchroom's best, and they're not holding back. Josh Kelly and Lewis Crocker, UK champs from Matchroom, are in their sights.
"We'd love to knock 'em both off," Rose grinned. "First, we're looking for Liam Paro to beat Crocker. But we've also got our eyes on Josh Kelly, with both Tim and Nikita ranked inside the top 10."
Ironically, Paro was previously managed by Hearn's Matchroom promotions. After an initial upset win against Subriel Matias, Paro lost his first defense in Puerto Rico. Rose believes that if Paro had the opportunity to defend in Australia, he would have emerged victorious.
"Defending here at home is a huge advantage," Rose stressed.
